Founded by Lisbon-based composer/producer Alexandre Santos in 2008 to create songs ‘from the most vitriolic, groovy assaults to soft acoustic pieces, and with a penchant for memorable hooks and vocal melodies,’ SCAR FOR LIFE features Rob Mancini on vocals, Alex Santos and Tiago Ian on guitar and Tëën Asty on bass. The band has released four studio albums to date: Scar For Life (2008), It All Fades Away (2010), 3 Minute Silence (2012) and Worlds Entwined (2014), and a currently working on their fifth studio album, as yet untitled, which is due for release early in 2019.
The band’s debut album, Scar For Life, was described as passionate and ‘honest [with] a clear vision of their sound and identity‘ (Metal Invader) and filled with ‘ace musicianship, and infectious energy’ (Metal Imperium). It All Fades Away was considered Album of the Year by Brazilian webzine, the Collector’s Room and ‘deserving of any praise they get because their music speaks for itself’ (My Global Mind), while 3 Minute Silence, explored a heavier and more melodic side of SCAR FOR LIFE. The album was described as containing ‘beauty and textural intensity’ (Metalshock Finland) and ‘a vibrant and imaginative blend of melodic rock forged with heavier extremes’ (The Ringmaster Review). Their fourth album, Worlds Entwined, released in 2014, was also well received and described as ‘a high and mighty metal album of some worth’ (Metal Forces) and ‘definitely worth your interest, especially if you like your melodic hard rock a bit heavier’ (Danger Dog).
SCAR FOR LIFE’s albums are renowned for featuring metal/rock legends. On 3 Minute Silence SCAR FOR LIFE featured guests violinist Anne Vitorino d’Almeida, Finnish singer Kari Vahakuopus (Catamenia) and British keyboardist Ged Ryland (ex-Ten), and Worlds Entwined was mixed by Swedish producer Martin Kronlunda and featured special guests Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath/Dio), Mikael Carlsson (Lover Under Cover) and Neil Fraser (Ten).
Onstage, SCAR FOR LIFE have opened for major Portuguese metal bands, headlined multiple shows and played acoustic showcases. In 2015, SCAR FOR LIFE opened the Portuguese heavy metal festival Vagos Open Air, alongside Black Label Society, Destruction, Overkill and Within Temptation. In 2016 SCAR FOR LIFE went on hiatus as various members of the band worked on side projects. Alex Santos and Rob Mancini worked on an international collaboration, STAGMA, with Neil Fraser (TEN) on lead guitars, Joe Petro (Heaven and Earth) on bass and Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio) and Patrick Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen, W.A.S.P.) on drums and Tëën Asty produced and released his first solo album. In August 2018 the band reunited and are currently writing songs for their fifth studio album. SCAR FOR LIFE are also planning a European tour in the spring of 2019 to coincide with the release of their new album.
